Touhou Spell Carnival Giveaway

This week, we’ve teamed up with Idea Factory International to give away three copies of Touhou Spell Carnival! Plus, we’ve got a hybrid playlist system running live on the station. For more details, read on!

Earlier this week, Touhou Spell Carnival was released by IFI for fans in the west, and they’ve graciously provided a few copies for us to give away to our community! This includes two digital codes (valid in North America) for PS4, PS5, or Nintendo Switch, as well as one limited edition (physical) copy for PS5. Fans can sign up via our Discord server at Gensokyo Radio until December 1st, 2024 at approximately 11:59pm PST (when the Discord embed expires).

In other news, we’ve continued working within the station’s existing framework to improve playlist selection and variety through a few different mechanisms:

• We’ve unified the “next song” selection query to apply a score to songs based on a combination of recency and frequency. Previously, these were two separate queries which would be shuffled over time.
• The aforementioned query is used to mix in songs with Azuracast’s shuffled playlist mechanism through a native internal request system. This lets Azuracast continue to handle media selection and display good metadata while also allowing for limited manual song selection on the GR side.
• We’ve increased the frequency of station rotation updates which should further improve variety over time.
• We’re continuing to add new music into the rotation. This process is very manual and generally takes a long time, so listeners will find new songs playing over the next few weeks.
