Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve managed to migrate our podcast library and are, for the moment, hosted fully independent of external cloud-based storage services. Plus, our Stage 5 series is now available for listening as a podcast series. For more details, read on!

In the brief amount of time that’s passed between the last article and this one, our server provider raised the prices of some of their server offerings globally, and this would have impacted us as well if we hadn’t locked in the cheaper price ahead of time. We got really lucky with both pricing and availability, but while we now have more of basically everything to run our services, there are still some very real limits we’ll have to work within.

With that said, we decided to keep focused on solving a problem related to podcast hosting. Up until very recently, we’ve been augmenting our storage by using a cloud storage provider. We’ve been hosting our podcasts using a combination of local cache and cloud storage, and while this would be a great system for some other use cases we have in mind, it doesn’t work as well when cache resources are very limited.

Solving the problem is easy: just get more storage space. However, for a large, monolithic podcast library like ours which spans more than a decade, it’s a significant amount of space to dedicate a server to on a relatively low budget. That’s why it was a pretty big win when we were able to lock in low prices for a full year.

We may have to reevaluate things a year from now when renewal comes around, but for now, our listeners can enjoy unhindered access to episodes of Gensokyo Radio Live, Meetup, and the newly available Stage 5. Each show’s subdomain has been updated with a list of episodes which automatically update when new shows become available. As usual, episodes will be available through our website, web app, and wherever our podcasts are listed such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, TuneIn, and more.

Additionally, with Meetup becoming available again, our web app’s podcast and playlist pages should be working again. Stage 5 is also available and browseable on the website and web app, but isn’t available on podcast platforms and probably won’t be added since it’s a very early and short series; consider it a bonus for folks who browse using our website or web app.

That’s all for this week! Feel free to browse and listen to our podcasts to your heart’s content (just don’t be dumb about it or abuse our free service), and thanks for listening!
