Over the past couple of weeks, we spent a lot of time creating the boring (yet insightful) copy for Station.moe’s Terms & Guidelines as well as its Privacy Policy. We’ve also deployed the full version of the Phase 1 website into production, now available at Station.moe. For more details, read on!

When we started Gensokyo Radio, writing a Privacy Policy was a fairly straightforward task, but despite how complicated it’s become in the present-day, there are plenty of resources and templates to help create one for a new service. However, the Terms document was much more of a challenge. It took approximately 18 days to write a brand new document, from start to finish, which covers everything from service objectives and methods, to the more procedural stuff in terms of what happens when things don’t go right.

The Terms document was built to cover typical service requirements, but we also wrote it with transparency in mind. If you’d rather not skim it yourself, here are a couple examples:

  1. The platform/artist split *aims* to give artists a minimum of 80% of each subscription after payment processor fees. This is the intention, but we’ve also highlighted what might affect that percentage. Outside of what’s written in the Terms at the moment, this has been written with the idea that we might introduce additional options which give artists an even higher percentage, but it’s too soon to talk about that yet.
  2. We detail the exact formula that Station.moe will be using when splitting subscriptions. Through our research, this sort of detail seems to be quite rare among streaming services in terms of explaining how listener subscriptions translate into artist payouts. When we start moving into Phase 2 or 3, users will also see more information and statistics that make it really clear how much of a user’s own subscription is granted to the songs they listen to.

Beyond the boring stuff, artist applications are now open on Station.moe. Users can apply for Artist status by creating an account and navigating to the Profile page. If you previously filled out the Google Form for this, create an account with the same email you used to fill out the form and an admin will be able to match the two together (the website will not say there’s a pending application). With that said, applications won’t be reviewed or accepted until some time later since we’ve got some other things to take care of outside of Station.

With Phase 1 out, we’ll be getting back to the rebuild of our music and merch store. To briefly recap, the store website had a couple of integrations which either broke or became deprecated without the support of a third-party developer. As a result, the store has been unavailable for the entirety of April. We started working on a rebuild back in March, and we’ll be getting back to it with the goal of restoring the store as soon as possible.

That’s it for this update, we’ll watch Station’s Phase 1 deployment while we rebuild the store. If you have questions about Phase 1 or anything else in this article, you can always reply via the forums. Thank you for your patience during the store’s downtime, and thanks for listening!
