Ratings, Top 100, & Return to Gensokyo

Welcome to the year 2025! If you didn’t think we were living in the future, well apparently now we are. The future is now. At the turn of every year, we like to remind our listeners about a few things that typically happen around this time.

First, song ratings for 2024 have been tallied, and the Top 100 Touhou Songs of 2024 list has been compiled. We’re currently working on our annual Top 100 video which will preview all of the songs in this list. The list is compiled based purely on listener-submitted ratings, and with fewer total ratings this year compared to past years, each rating felt a lot more weighty than normal.

As an example, there is one song which would have taken a spot in the top 10 this year, but a single four-star rating sent it tumbling into a much different ranking position. We hope that our web app will help listeners submit more ratings in 2025 as the interface makes it very easy and straightforward to do so. Stay tuned for the Top 100 video, and consider subscribing to Gensokyo Radio’s YouTube channel to be notified when it’s scheduled.

Second, song ratings submitted in previous years will change from gold stars to blue stars to indicate that the rating will not apply to the current year’s Top 100 list, and with 2024 now behind us, most listeners’ song ratings will now appear blue. In order to have these ratings apply to our next Top 100 list, listeners will need to re-rate these songs. Blue stars appear as a reminder of what the previous rating for a particular song was.

Finally, we recently premiered a new video “Return to Gensokyo” via another of LunarSpotlight Media’s YouTube channels. This is essentially a 1-hour documentary film detailing a return trip to a town in central Japan where it is said Gensokyo may exist if it were a place in the real world.
