GR Live #130 & the Bad Apple Project

This week, we broadcast our 130th episode of Gensokyo Radio Live, talked a bit about an external project, and continued working on the mobile app. For more info, read on.

Gensokyo Radio Live #130 brought more music, gaming, and current event news to our audience with Lunar, DMJ, and Xara as co-hosts. Aside from sharing an unflattering photo of TAM on stage, comparing Touhou music to works from other games, and asking Xara which MRE he’s eating this time around, we also talked about this weekend’s r/place where folks from the Touhou and osu! communities (plus others) got together to recreate Alstroemeria Records’s well-known Bad Apple shadow art. It’s speculated to be the longest on-board animation to date on an r/place board, where users are able to place a single pixel on the board every five minutes. We were more actively encouraging folks during last year’s event, but putting aside current Reddit shenanigans, we felt this project was worth a mention. As of this post, the animation has completed, and you’ll be able to find it in time lapses of this year’s board.

We also continued to work through additional aspects of our in-development PWA including progressive UI, navigation, the introduction screen (for first-time users), and the album details screen which is one of the more complex screens to put together next to the player. Looking forward, we’re partway through putting together the rating screen with favorites to follow, then there’s the podcast detail screen and home screen.

Beyond that, we’ll be putting together a table for translation terms and importing previous translations before opening the system up for volunteers. More details will become available in the not-too-distant future.
