So far in April, we’ve locked down a large portion of the style and design language for Station, plus we’re getting some of the more boring but necessary bits done ahead of allowing account creation, some of which will provide additional insight into how the platform will work. For more details, read on.
First, the style of the website is something that’s largely been left behind as a relatively low-priority item in the grand scheme of developing a new website and the system that runs it. Part of this was previewed via the we posted alongside our previous news post, but we still had to finalize the color scheme while considering readability and accessibility when pairing text with various visual elements. Once that was out of the way, the Phase 1 portion of the website needed to be updated to match the new style by regenerating a new stylesheet which fused custom elements with our existing css framework, and by reclassifying various page elements to use the new style. At this point, we feel that the website is presentable, but it’s possible we’ll still make style adjustments between now and the post-phase release. We also don’t have a finalized logo yet aside from the platform’s name, so that’ll show up at some point as well.
Second, we’re currently delving into the boring but necessary world of privacy policies and terms of service. Creating a Privacy Policy that satisfies regulations in various parts of the world is weirdly complicated. As an example, when we updated Gensokyo Radio’s privacy policy to meet GDPR regulations, that policy went from approximately one page to four pages. For Station, we’re using a different template for the privacy policy which is probably more permissive than it needs to be, and we may or may not trim some of it down at some point, but we’re confident that it covers everything it needs to in terms of what the platform uses and provides.
Following that, we’re still building the terms of service page which doesn’t use a defined template like the privacy policy does. This is largely because platforms like Station are uncommon, and we can’t just use a pre-made template out of the box for it. Plus, there are a few things about our platform which are relatively unique in terms of how artists interact with it, how the marketplace-like structure of the platform will work, and how our general philosophy ties in to acceptable use by listeners. Our goal at this stage is essentially to let people know how the platform will work, what is acceptable or unacceptable when using it, and what the consequences of breaking the terms will be. It gets a little more tricky when combining music directly provided by artists alongside a monetization system, so we’re taking our time with this part of the process.
We are still on-track to have account registration and artist applications available this month for Station, so stay tuned for more news, and thanks for listening!
