Just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season as the year 2012 draws to a close.

One of the things I’ve been working on as a bit of a side project is coding Tetris in JavaScript. Well, that seems pretty random doesn’t it? However, even though there are already more than enough implementations of Tetris out there, I wanted to do this as an exercise/challenge for myself, to become more familiar with how some things in JavaScript work. As some of you may know, I’ve been working in JavaScript to maintain things like the live song info you see on the website, among other things.

One thing I did before starting to work with PHP for websites was that I wrote a program in the only non-web programming language I knew at the time, C++. My goal in writing that program was to try to calculate the first million prime numbers efficiently. I came up with my own ideas on how to accomplish that, and I worked my way from a few minutes to a few seconds.

A similar idea applies with this exercise. My goal is to become more proficient in JavaScript in general, and with that, be able to write better implementations for website features. The only unfortunate thing with that is that I started this project before the holiday season started. Once it kicked in, work (at my paying job) got much heavier, and so I have much less time to spend on these kinds of things.

One year ago from the 21st (when I made the apocalypse day post), the first website version that I helped publish went live at GensokyoRadio.net. That theme was known as GSR2. The image below is a small snippet from the next site version which I hope to publish in January, GSR5. I know I’ve sort of mentioned it here and there since October, but I really hope to push through and get this site out to everyone. I also start class again in mid-January, the first time in over a year, so that should be interesting.

Thanks for listening everyone, and have a happy new year!
